AUDIO SERVICES

After production, mixing is the most crucial step towards achieving a polished distribution-ready song. All the separate elements are combined into a single stereo channel, forming 90% of the finished product. A good ear and an acoustically treated studio are essential to ensure a clean, well-balanced result with proper dynamics. Beyond that, a seasoned engineer knows how to enhance the mix to create an exciting stereo soundscape with the right position and presence for each element. A well-done mix is truly the secret to achieving a great master.

Pricing

Since mixing projects vary in size it’s not possible to create a standardized price for this service. The amount of work depends on the number of channels in a project and how many of those channels require special care. To manage this, each project is quoted based on the work involved.

Smaller projects start at a minimum of $175* while bigger projects can range from $350* and up.

Contact me to get an estimate for your project.

*Prices are in Canadian dollars. Canadian clients are also subject to local taxes.
If you wish to pay in a different currency please let me know.

The Process
  1. Upload Your Rough Mix
The best way for me to get an idea of your project and the work involved is to hear it!
Upload your rough mix(es) to a private Soundcloud playlist (preferred), a personal cloud or a file transfer service.

  2. Contact and Communication
Fill out the contact form with the details of your project including the link to your rough mix. I’ll contact you soon with a quote for my work and answer any questions you might have. We’ll discuss your project goals and schedule to ensure timely delivery.

  3. Prepare Your Files
Your audio must be correctly exported from your DAW. Most importantly your files should be:
    – well named
    – exported at 24-bit minimum
    – and audio should never pass -0.1dB on any channel.

To make things simple I’ve created an easy to follow checklist.

  4. Upload Your Files
Now that the files are exported it’s time to send them to my studio. I’ll provide you with a direct upload link to the studio’s cloud. If you prefer, you can send me a personal link or use a file transfer service.

  5. Mixing Begins
Once I receive your files I’ll go through all the elements to ensure they are free of issues and begin mixing. If the song can be improved by reworking or replacing certain elements I’ll communicate this to you and may ask you to re-export the channel with some or all effects removed.

  6. Revisions and Final Details
Before finalizing the project I will send you a draft. Along with it, I may also send some notes and questions to help us further improve the mix. After receiving your feedback I’ll finalize all the remaining details and send you a second draft for approval. Once we take care of all notes I will export the final files for delivery. Generally, most mixes won’t require more than 2-3 revisions.

  7. Payment and File Delivery
Once you’re satisfied with the mix I’ll provide you with an invoice. Payment is possible via bank transfer, Paypal, or Wise. After payment is confirmed, you’ll receive a link to download your full mix package which includes:
    – 24-bit Stereo WAV Pre-Master (32 bit available free of charge upon request)
    – 320 kbps Stereo MP3 Demo (full song, digitally mastered and ready to be sent to labels or played live)
    – On Request: 24-bit Stereo WAV Stem Package (all individually processed channels, useful for remix production)

Payment is made in Canadian dollars. Canadian clients are also subject to local taxes.
If you wish to pay in a different currency please let me know.

The final step before distribution, mastering is designed to finalize your song and establish the best possible sound. The audio is carefully analyzed, existing issues are repaired and then further processing is done to add the fullness, depth and loudness you’d expect from an industry-standard release. Before delivery, each song is checked on multiple reference monitors to ensure they translate well to sound systems of all sizes. Mastered for iTunes (MFiT) and Spotify specific masters are also available to provide the best quality over streaming platforms.

Mastering for digital release costs $60* per song.
If needed, DDP files (for CD replication) cost $50* per CD.

For longer recordings, there is an extra charge of $15* per hour.

For live band performances or multi-channel recordings prices may vary, please contact me.
